Home - Journeys - Belgium, Dinant 2023 - Monday, August 21, 2023

Along the Meuse.

Along the Meuse.

Along the Meuse.

Along the Meuse.

Thirsty.

Thirsty.

Thirsty.

Thirsty.

Today we leave for Dinant in Belgium. We are supposed to leave around 10 o'clock, and that works out quite well, a quarter past ten. According to our Garmin we should arrive at about a quarter past two.

The journey starts quietly, there is little traffic. In the vicinity of Venlo, part of the road to Maastricht is closed for work, which means a detour. We are sent to the A2 and then to Maastricht. This results in half an hour extra travel time, and also a lot of traffic on the road. Near Maastricht we make a sanitary stop and we also eat a little.

The journey goes well, it is busy until past Liège, but after that it is quiet again. The area is increasingly hilly and the roads are sometimes quite bad.

Our navigation quickly leads us to our hotel, the ibis Dinant Centre. We can park next to the hotel, free of charge. Check-in is fast and friendly, in English but that is better than in French.

The room is a bit disappointing, very spartan, but we do have a view of the Meuse. We miss a refrigerator, bottled water, glasses and a toilet brush. The room is neat and it is very hot, we turn on the air conditioning.

When we have unpacked we walk along the Meuse to the center of Dinant. There are many terraces along the river, and you can also eat at most of them. We opt for Café Leffe, which has a covered balcony all around so that we don't have to sit in the bright sun.
Of course we order Leffe, but also steak tartare and pasta with ham and cheese. The food is not bad but certainly not very special, but a lot.

After dinner we walk along the Maas back to the hotel. It is very hot in the setting sun, especially Pia has a lot of trouble with it.
We sit down on the terrace of the hotel and drink some wine and Leffe. The view over the river is very nice.
